A Level company - serving Astoria, NY

DuraFlex Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

This page is for Astoria homeowners who already know they have a DuraFlex product and want service from people who actually understand how these systems behave in Queens housing stock. Corrine Halstead and our techs have worked on DuraFlex installations in prewar rowhouses, 1950s brick apartment conversions, and newer condo builds across Astoria. The flue conditions vary wildly. The brand-specific failure patterns don’t.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

DuraFlex makes solid chimney liner and venting products. That doesn’t mean they never fail. Here’s what we actually see on Astoria jobs, line by line:

  • DuraFlex 316L stainless liners cracking at the seam welds. This is the most common DuraFlex failure we photograph in Astoria. The 316L alloy handles flue gas well, but older installations where the liner was flexed hard through offset smoke chambers develop stress fractures at the welded seam. We document it with the camera, show you the stills, and replace the section or the full liner depending on what the footage shows.
  • DuraFlex Pro liner joints separating after chimney settling. Some Astoria rowhouses settle more than others, especially on Steinway Street blocks where original footings sit on mixed fill. When the chimney shifts a few millimeters, rigid-connected DuraFlex Pro sections can pull apart at the couplers. The symptom is usually a sudden draft change or a smell in the firebox. We re-seat the joints and, where needed, add a proper support bracket rather than just telling you to “keep an eye on it.”
  • DuraFlex aluminum liners (the non-stainless line) warping on gas fireplace conversions. If you converted a wood-burning fireplace to gas and an aluminum DuraFlex liner was run up the old flue, heat cycling causes the aluminum to deform at the top connection over 5 to 8 years. The camera shows it as a pinched throat right below the cap. We swap in 316L stainless and re-flash the top. If someone installed aluminum on a wood-burning fireplace, which should never happen, we document that too.
  • DuraFlex direct-vent fireplace terminations pulling loose from the exterior wall in Astoria’s wind exposure. Astoria gets real wind off the East River, and terminations that were silicone-sealed rather than mechanically fastened work themselves free. You’ll see daylight or hear a rattle behind the unit. We re-mount with proper brackets, reseal against the brick face, and re-check clearances per the installation manual.
  • DuraFlex flex kits that were stretched too far during original install. Flex liner has a maximum stretch rating. When a previous installer stretched a DuraFlex flex kit beyond spec to save a few feet of material, the corrugation profile flattens and the liner loses structural integrity. It looks fine from the top. The camera shows a compressed, ovalized bore that restricts draft. We replace the run at the correct length. No chimney in Astoria is worth a liner that’s fighting itself.

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

Our DuraFlex Fireplace Services Process

Every DuraFlex job in Astoria follows the same sequence, and it starts with evidence, not opinion.

  1. 1
Call and book a diagnostic. You reach a live person, 24/7. We tell you the diagnostic price on the phone, in writing, before the appointment is set. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard: written price before anyone starts.
  2. 2
Camera-scan inspection, NFPA 211 Level 2. We run the camera down the flue and through the firebox, smoke chamber, and damper assembly on every single visit. You watch the footage with us on the tablet. If there’s a crack, separation, or warping, you see it with your own eyes.
  3. 3
Parts decision: OEM DuraFlex or quality aftermarket. We stock and source OEM DuraFlex components, but we also work with HeatShield and Gelco materials when they’re the better fit for a specific flue condition or when lead times make OEM impractical. You get the trade-off explained in plain terms: cost, availability, and warranty coverage. The camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we. And neither should the parts decision be made for you without facts.
  4. 4
Repair or replacement, quoted as a fixed written price. The scope is written, the materials are specified, and the warranty is stated before we do anything. No open-ended hourly billing. No surprises after the fact.
  5. 5
The work, then a second camera pass. After the repair or install, we run the camera again. You keep the photo record of both passes. That record is Clause 4 of the Haven Standard and has been our default since 2009. It’s not an add-on.
  6. 6
Cleanup and a written close-out. We leave the hearth area cleaner than we found it, hand you the written warranty, and log the job with your photo file archived. If anything isn’t right within 365 days, we come back and make it right under the Done Right Promise.

What DuraFlex Fireplace Services Costs in Astoria

Here are the numbers we quote most often for DuraFlex work in Astoria. Exact pricing depends on what the camera shows, but these ranges hold up across most rowhouse and apartment configurations we service:

  • Diagnostic camera-scan inspection (Level 2): $189-$249 flat. Includes the written photo record, whether you book a repair or not.
  • Damper repair or replacement on a DuraFlex-equipped fireplace: $220-$480, depending on whether we’re repairing the existing frame or replacing with a top-sealing damper.
  • Firebox repointing and minor masonry repair: $350-$800. Hairline cracks are normal. Spalling brick and missing mortar joints aren’t.
  • DuraFlex liner section repair (stainless, moderate access): $600-$1,200 per section, including the second camera pass.
  • Full DuraFlex liner replacement in a typical Astoria rowhouse flue: $2,400-$4,800, depending on flue length, access, and whether the smoke chamber needs parging while we’re in there.
  • Fireplace insert installation or conversion with new DuraFlex liner: $4,500-$8,500 all-in, including liner, termination, gas or wood configurations, and the documented record.

What moves the price: roof access (flat roofs with parapets are easier than steep pitches), whether the flue has offsets, how much of the old liner is fused to the smoke chamber, and whether we need masonry work around the liner. You’ll always get the exact number in writing before we start. Estimates are free. Call (516) 301-1549 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing.

Why Astoria Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Astoria for DuraFlex Work

Why Astoria Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Astoria for DuraFlex Work

Plenty of chimney companies in New York City will say they can service a DuraFlex system. Very few can show you a photo archive of DuraFlex-specific failures going back to 2009 on Astoria brick. Corrine Halstead built this shop around one idea: write down the price before you start, and hand over the pictures whether the customer books the repair or not. That practice is why we’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys, every one with a written price before work started and a documented record when it was done.

We’re background-checked and uniformed, and you get a named tech with a text before arrival. Calls are answered by a live person around the clock, not a voicemail box. We carry DuraFlex OEM parts and keep HeatShield and Gelco materials in the same supply network, so when a repair calls for a different material, you don’t wait three weeks for a decision to become an option. And every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right.
