Signs Your HeatShield Crown Repair Is Failing
- Hairline cracks reappearing within 1-2 years of the repair. This usually means the original crown wasn’t properly prepped: old loose concrete left underneath, or the HeatShield was applied too thin. In Astoria’s freeze-thaw cycle, water gets into a hairline crack, freezes, and widens it within a single winter.
- White mineral deposits (efflorescence) on the exterior brick below the crown. Water is moving through the crown and leaching salts out of the mortar. It’s not just cosmetic: those salts mean water has been traveling for months, and the brick faces will eventually spall.
